The listing quality score

What the score on each listing measures, the five things it weighs, what the weak point label means, and what the score deliberately cannot tell you.

The listing quality score

Each listing carries a score out of 100 and a short note naming its weakest point. The score is Elistit’s opinion of how completely a listing is set up. It is not an Etsy metric, and Etsy never sees it.

Its usefulness is the weak point label rather than the number. A score of 62 tells you little. “Not using all 13 tags” tells you what to do next.

What it weighs

Five things, weighted:

WhatWeightFull marks when
Anchor tags35%The listing carries your shop’s anchor tags
Description30%Free of filler, and at least 100 characters
Tags15%All thirteen slots used
Price10%Within the price band your shop sells well at
Title10%Between 40 and 140 characters

The weak point label names whichever of the five scores lowest, and each one maps to a specific fix rather than general advice.

What the score cannot tell you

It does not measure whether the design is any good. Nothing here looks at the artwork. A beautiful print with a thin description scores badly. A dull one with thirteen tags and a full description scores well.

It does not predict sales. It measures setup completeness. A fully set up listing in a saturated niche will still struggle, and an underscored listing with a design people want will still sell.

It is not Etsy’s view of your listing. Etsy publishes its own ranking factors, which include things this score cannot see, such as your customer service record, shipping performance and conversion.

The heaviest item is our own idea. Anchor tags carry 35%, and anchors are a pattern we recommend rather than a rule Etsy publishes. If you have read Tag anchors explained and decided anchors are not for your shop, expect scores to sit lower, and treat that as the score disagreeing with your strategy rather than your listings being wrong.

We would rather tell you that than have you optimise towards a number without knowing what is inside it.

Using it well

Sort your listings by views over thirty days, then look at the scores on the ones getting traffic but not selling. Those are the listings where a setup problem is costing you a sale that was otherwise available.

Do the opposite of what the number invites: ignore your worst scores if those listings get no traffic. A listing nobody sees does not become worth seeing because its description got longer. Improving it is unpaid work.

And leave your best sellers alone unless the weak point is something additive, like an unused tag slot. A listing that sells has proven its title and price against real buyers, whatever this score thinks.

FAQ

Does the score affect my Etsy ranking? No. It is internal to Elistit. Etsy neither sees it nor uses it.

Why did my score change when I did not touch the listing? Two of the five things are relative to your shop rather than fixed. Anchor tags depend on which tags currently repeat across your listings, and the price band depends on what has been selling. Change the shop and the scores shift.

Can I turn it off? Not at the moment.

My listing scores 100 and does not sell. Then the problem is not setup. It is likely the design, the niche, the photography or the price against competitors. The score cannot see any of those, which is why 100 is not a promise.

Does a low score mean I should delete the listing? No. Low score plus no views over months is a case for letting it expire rather than renewing. Low score plus steady views is a case for fixing it.
