Product setup: templates, defaults and what each type delivers
The Products tab in Branding sets the fixed listing text, buyer PDF and creation defaults for one product type at a time, including the one type that ships a physical print instead of a file.
Product setup: templates, defaults and what each type delivers
Branding has one Products area, and it is set up per product type. Wall art, clipart, poster, greeting card, SVG and custom each get their own templates, their own buyer PDF and their own creation defaults. Changing wall art leaves poster alone.
Everything here is a default for what you make next. Listings you have already created keep the text they were made with.
Poster is the only physical product
This is the one distinction worth reading twice, because it changes what the buyer receives.
| Type | What the buyer gets |
|---|---|
| Poster | A printed poster, made to order and shipped. No file at all. |
| Wall art, clipart, greeting card, SVG, custom | Digital files, delivered by Etsy after purchase |
So a poster listing must never promise a download, and the other five must never promise shipping. The poster template supplied with your shop says so directly (“Physical product, no digital files included”). If you rewrite it, keep that line honest: a buyer told to expect an instant download who receives a parcel four days later is a refund and a bad review.
That is also why the Products tab shows poster a Shipping and delivery section where the other types show Delivery details. It is not an inconsistency.
The listing template
Fixed text added to every listing of that type: file specs, licence, delivery, the things you would otherwise retype forever.
- Save makes your version the one used on all future listings of that type.
- Reset to default restores the original text at any point, so you can experiment without losing it.
Your template is one block inside a larger description. Elistit writes the product description above it and adds a print quality block and the AI disclosure at the bottom. You are editing your section, not the whole listing.
Buyer PDF
The thank-you card included with delivered orders. Set it per type, or start from the sample and edit.
Poster has no buyer PDF, because poster buyers receive no files. That field is absent by design rather than missing.
One line in the sample is worth keeping: downloads do not work in the Etsy mobile app. Buyers must use a browser. It is the single most common “where are my files” message a digital shop gets.
Branded slides
Extra gallery images built from your brand: size chart, quality, promo.
Generating them costs 25 credits, and that one charge covers the whole branding session, including social assets and any regenerations you do in the same pass. If a generation fails, the credits are returned and the error says so.
Creation defaults
These prefill the create form when you pick that product type. Each can be left as “no default” if you would rather choose every time.
- Model and images per set
- Aspect ratio, offered per type: wall art 3:4 or 4:3, poster 2:3 or 3:2
- Mockup set
- Shipping profile (poster), applied to new poster drafts so they publish ready to ship
- SKU prefix, which seeds the SKUs new listings are created with
Universal tags
Tags added to every listing, so your shop keeps a consistent anchor.
There are two levels. The shop-wide list applies everywhere. The per-type list overrides the shop-wide one for that product type, rather than adding to it. If you set both, the per-type list is what that type uses.
Etsy allows 13 tags of up to 20 characters each, and anchors you set here occupy some of that budget. Leave room for the specific ones.
FAQ
Do template changes update listings I already published? No. Published listings keep their text. Change the template and the next listing of that type picks it up.
I edited a template and my next listing looks the same. Check you pressed Save, and check you edited the right type. The tab shows one type at a time.
Can I put my shop name and colours in the template? You can, though you do not need to. Your logo, colours and shop name are applied to gallery images and PDFs from Shop Identity.
Why is there no buyer PDF for poster? Poster buyers receive a printed item and no files, so there is nothing to attach a PDF to.
Does editing these cost credits? No. Only generating branded slides does, and that shares one charge with the rest of your branding session.
