Describing what you want

How to write the one sentence on the Create page, what the shop manager works out for you, and what it cannot guess.

Describing what you want

The box at the top of the Create page takes one sentence. Not a form, not a list of keywords, just a sentence the way you would say it out loud to someone who works for you.

Press Enter and the shop manager reads it, works out which product you meant, and fills in the brief: title, SKU, an expanded description for the image generator, style, mood, colors and starting tags. Nothing is made and no credits are spent. You land in the studio with the fields filled in, and you can change any of them.

Five that work

Each of these lands on a different product type. They are the examples shown on the page itself, so you can click one instead of typing.

SentenceWhat you get
vintage Father Christmas clipart, 20 PNGsA 20 image clipart bundle on transparent backgrounds
watercolor peony greeting cardOne printable 5x7 folded card, blank inside
retro Lisbon travel posterA physical print, fulfilled by a print on demand partner
minimal boho line art wall printOne printable image the buyer downloads
camping quote SVG cut filesNative vector files for cutting machines

How it picks the product

Mostly from the noun you use. “Clipart”, “bundle” or “icon set” gives you a clipart set. “Card”, “invitation” or “5x7” gives you a greeting card. “Poster” gives you the physical print. “SVG”, “vector” or “cut file” gives you the vector pack. “Wall art”, “art print” or “wall decor” gives you wall art.

If your sentence does not say, it assumes wall art, because that is the most common. You are not stuck with the guess. Change the type in the studio, or go back and pick from the cards below the box.

Two things are worth knowing. Poster is the only physical product: the buyer receives a shipped print and never the file. Everything else is a digital download that Etsy delivers automatically. And stickers are no longer a product type. A sentence about stickers becomes clipart, which is the same transparent cut out artwork under a name buyers search for more.

What helps

Say the subject, and say how it should look. “Watercolor peony greeting card” gives the shop manager a subject, a medium and a product in five words. “Something nice for Christmas” gives it a season and nothing else.

Worth including when you care about the answer:

  • Subject. What is actually in the picture.
  • Medium or style. Watercolor, line art, flat vector, oil, pencil.
  • Mood or palette. Muted, bold, sage and cream, moody.
  • How many. “20 PNGs”, “a set of 12”. Only clipart and SVG packs have a count. Wall art, posters and cards are one image each.
  • Shape. Say portrait, landscape or square if the orientation matters.

Three things one sentence cannot do

The box handles the five products Elistit generates artwork for: wall art, clipart, greeting cards, posters and SVG packs. It cannot set up the other three create flows right now, because each of those starts with something you supply, or with choices no sentence can express.

  • Personalized (in the sidebar) is for listings each buyer makes their own, with their name on your design or your style on their photo. You author the design once and set which parts the buyer fills in.
  • Bring Your Own Art is for artwork you already made elsewhere. We upscale it, process it and write the listing, skipping generation entirely.
  • Custom Product is for files you have already finished. We write the Etsy listing for them and deliver them.

If you describe one of these in the sentence box, Elistit tells you it cannot do it there and links you to the right page. Take the link. Left to itself the shop manager reads “personalized name sign” as ordinary wall art and generates a print with no personalization on it at all, and you pay for it.

What it cannot guess

It reads your sentence, not your shop. It does not know your niche, your best sellers or your brand voice from this box alone, and it does not check what is trending before answering. It is one quick read, which is why it comes back in a few seconds.

If you want advice that draws on your actual shop data, use the AI Shop Manager instead. That is the conversation that knows what you already sell.

It also will not invent a niche for you. A sentence that says nothing specific gets a generic answer, and generic products are the hardest ones to sell.

After you press Enter

You get a panel showing what it came up with: title, SKU, the expanded idea, style chips, a color palette and tags.

Use these suggestions opens the studio for that product type with everything filled in. No thanks clears the panel and leaves your sentence alone, so you can reword and try again. Editing the sentence and pressing Enter again re runs it.

Nothing is charged at this point. Credits are only spent when you launch the product from the studio.

FAQ

Does this cost credits? No. Reading your sentence and drafting the brief is free. You are charged when you launch, and the studio shows the cost before you do.

It picked the wrong product type. Can I change it? Yes. Change it in the studio, or go back and choose from the product cards. If it keeps guessing wrong, name the product in your sentence: “greeting card”, “poster”, “clipart”.

A product type I want is missing from the cards. The cards show what is in that shop’s catalog. Add the missing type on the shop’s Branding page, under What you sell. It is set per shop, so check you are on the right one.

Can I paste a long description instead of a sentence? Up to 500 characters, yes, and more detail generally helps. Past that it is usually better to write a short sentence and refine the fields in the studio, where you can see each one.

Do I have to use this box at all? No. The product cards below take you straight to the same studio with empty fields. The sentence is a shortcut, not a gate.
